THE PHONE THAT CAN SEE INTO YOUR EYES
Then there’s the iris scanner which, along with the really fast fingerprint sensor tucked inside the home button, bulks up the security setup of the Note 7. While the fingerprint sensor is great, the iris scanner is more of gimmick.
Setting it up is easy – it’s quicker than adding a fingerprint – but in real-life use it’s little more than a James Bond-esque addition that sounds way cooler than it is. At least it read my eyes, but it has to be level with your retinas to get it going and then you have to swipe up on the lockscreen.
It’s a much slower overall process, and I turned it off completely about 30 minutes after setting it up.
Along with unlocking the phone, your eyes can open the secure folder and authorise payments through the Samsung App Store and its own mobile wallet service. I'll stick to my fingerprint for now, but maybe we'll all be unlocking our phones with a glare in a few years.
Continue reading for my overall impressions so far, and check back tomorrow for our full Note 7 review.
